Name of series about kids who worked at a vet/ranch
Main Post:
When I was younger I remember devouring a series of books about kids who worked/volunteered in either a vet clinic or vet on a horse farm/ranch. I think the main character lived at the ranch with her grandma, who was a vet. The other kids came in to volunteer. I remember one book was about the kids finding a feral cat colony and one of the girls was bitten by a cat and she was terrified they would have to put the cat down to test its brain for rabies. Her mom was a doctor. They also once time found a raccoon in the daytime and it had rabies. For some reason my memories of this series revolve around the storylines with rabies! But whenever I search for it I only get results for Animorphs and I can’t remember many more details outside of the vague stories I described above.
SOLVED. thank you! :)
Top Comment: Was it the Animal Ark Series? My kids read those.
Looking for some decent vet/animal caring games an adult can enjoy
Main Post:
As the title, I remember being a kid and loving a DS game where you cared for horses. No idea the name anymore but it was 40% buying the stables and feed and managing stuff and like 60% caring for the horses getting them healthy and back home so you can take in new ones.
Looking around so far though almost all of them are clearly aimed at kids, which isnt that big of a deal but they are also *terrible* I am talking like shovelware mobile ports designed to capture the attention of a 5 year old just long enough for them to buy in-game stuff with their parents credit card.
Are there any games out there where animal care is a focal point but that are decent? Preferably for the switch but I will be getting a steamdeck soon, looking for something I can sink an ungoldly amount of hours into.
Tried some zoo management games but it was always too broad of a view and if you could get close to the animals a lot of it was frills and 90% of the game was management sim.
Previously liked trauma centre under the knife, potion permit (2/10 you can only pet and feed the dog), stardew valley (6/10 not enough actual animal caring going on). Nintendogs was great as a kid though didn't have the depth I wanted, too much focus on the microphone, and, I have a real dog now.

Vet kits?
Main Post:
Hi everyone, sorry if this post isn’t allowed but I don’t actually know any veterinarians. My daughter wants to be a vet when she grows up and is asking for like vet supplies for Christmas. She’s 9, so the kits that Amazon sells are a bit too small for her. Is there anything you would recommend that I could use to create a kit for her? Thank you for any help I can get.

Why not a cheap stethoscope and a cheap second hand microscope? You can get ok (perfectly fine for a 9 year old) quality ones for not much cash - she can listen to hearts and lungs, and put slides from nature or skin swabs from the family dogs mouth, saliva etc.
That won't let her get invasive or accidentally harm any animals but will give her a bit more insight into how animals work
Veterinary culture and fun scrubs: will I be expected to wear fun scrubs in the clinic, or in a museum, zoo, or aquarium visitor-facing role?
Main Post:
Long story short:
I’m a student who hasn’t even done the first externship yet. But I will be soon-ish.
I’m not a fun scrubs kind of person, but, I am not averse to wearing them! I just don’t wear a lot of bright colors or cartoony items daily as it is. I still think they’re cool on other people.
But — I was wondering if I should get some to keep on hand anyway.
Are there regularly days or events where fun scrubs are recommended or required? E.g. Valentine’s Day, casual Friday’s?
While I’m not big on fun scrubs, I am the person that loves to join in on workplace events.
EDIT: Thanks all y’all! What I’m going to do is...
- Not get work scrubs in specific colors until I have a job
-Get a few fun scrubs. I can wear those in my home if they aren’t used at work, because I can wear them during pet care tasks (Guinea pig stuff) in the mornings before work
- Fun scrubs I am getting, like one of each:
Pink with hearts — Valentine’s Day, heart health, breast cancer pink themed days
Christmas and Hanukkah scrubs. The Hanukkah scrubs are navy with white stars and aren’t explicitly for Hanukkah. The Christmas ones are also pretty subtle. I am weird — I am
Dog scrubs
Cat scrubs
Aquarium and zoo themed scrubs

Depends on the facility. At my clinic we are not allowed to wear any printed scrubs.
